New Friends

Okay, so I definitely had a much better second day. I woke up yesterday morning, feeling slightly better after a decent sleep but still a bit lonely and a bit strange staying in someone else's house. I feel a bit like I'm intruding on her space, but I think I need to get over that. That's what I'm paying for!! I got to Skype with Dustin a bit in the morning which was definitely nice, he cheered me up, even if seeing him made me feel on the verge of tears again! However, I got a call from the senior adminstrative officer at the school who I had met with a few months ago when he was out in Chilliwack and he said he was at the school and if I could come by, he'd give me a tour. My land lady was nice enough to drive me over and I entered the most beautiful school I have ever seen.

So the first part of the tour is of the dining room of the Bistro they have at the school which is open to the public. I will eventually be preparing the pastries for the public here for some hands on practice and I will also get the opportunity to serve guests as well.

Next up was the main Pastry demo room. This is incredible, it is so beautiful! I can't believe that I will actually be having classes here. I got to meet one of the chefs as well, he was setting up for a short course for the public. He seemed very nice, I'm excited to work with such talented people.

Next up, student lounge. Apparently I will be spending a lot of time here, if not in the kitchen.

This next picture is of one of the private dining rooms. Apparently it is the most private and most romantic rooms, many proposals happen here.

These are some examples of the chocolate sculptures that we will get to create in the Superior portion of our training.

So the best part of my day happened just at the end of my tour of the school. The SAO was going to show me around the house I'll be moving into in June. It backs right onto Le Cordon Bleu property, so I have pretty much a minute walk onto campus which will be great! A girl and her mother stopped us just as we were leaving, turns out the girl is starting Monday in pastry as well. The SAO asked if I'd mind if he showed them around, I got to talking with them and they are fabulous. Her name is Emily and her mother is Alison, they're from Mississippi and they just have the most wonderful southern accents. I spent the whole day with them! We went shopping at the Rideau Centre, got my new Ottawa phone number and a bus pass. We went for lunch at this great little pub and then did some more shopping over at Ikea, Michaels and Walmart. I then got to see her super cute apartment and around 10pm we all went to Chinatown for dinner.

I am so excited to have met someone in the program. I think we're both pretty excited actually. It has definitely made this transition much easier. My family and Dustin have all said that I sound so much happier now. I'm not even scared to take the bus now! (although, still slightly nervous but I don't think it will be as bad as I thought).

I know I'm a day behind in posting, but I'll post again tomorrow! It's going to be a crazy day!
