Italian Fusion

Okay, I apologize! I know I said I would post yesterday but I didn't. I got caught up with a few other things. So, here is where I left off:

On Sunday, I spent the morning organizing my new room. I unpacked everything and made this place somewhat like "home." Around one o'clock Emily came around with her mum and we spent the afternoon doing some shopping. Went to this cool store called Terra 20, we have to get one in BC! I'm pretty sure it's my new favourite store. It's got clothes, beauty products, organic cleaning supplies, home supplies but I found Apple Pie laundry detergent! I'm buying this before I come home. They had bubble gum scented, pina colada, strawberry shortcake...a whole multitude of different scents. Have my clothes smell like Apple Pie...I think so!

So after we got Emily some new sheets and things, we decided to go to Little Italy for some real Italian lunch. Unfortunately, I didn't really get any pictures of our adventure in Little Italy, but I can say that the food was wonderful. We went to this really cute restaurant that had a rooftop patio (I believe it was called Trattoria Italia) and we ordered calamari and bruschetta (pronounced [broo-skayt-tah]) for an appetizer. Then we ordered a trio of lasagna, veal parmigiana and manicotti which is pasta shells with ricotta cheese inside baked in tomato sauce and we also ordered a margherita pizza which was amazing. We then moved on to a little Italian bakery where we indulged in a Nutella macaron (delicious!) and gelato. The pastries in this bakery were incredible. Emily and I were drooling over all of them, realizing that pretty soon, we'll be able to make most of these!

Oh and sorry...I do have one or two pictures from Little Italy

After our late lunch we went to the Rideau Centre to do some more shopping but it was closed so we wandered around the market that they have there. It's a really bustling place. We watched some street performers who were extremely talented. They have trained for ten years at some acrobatic school in Ottawa and have trained with Cirque du Soleil performers. Could just be a story, but you can't deny their talent.

We then spent our evening at the casino at the Hilton hotel in Quebec! It's in Gatineau, which you quite literally just drive over a bridge and you're in Quebec. It's quite interesting to see how by just stepping over this line, everything changes from English and French to just French. Every sign was in French and had no English translation. Very interesting.

While Alison went to play Texas Hold'em, Emily and I went to the penny slots. After each doubling our money (Emily played a $20, I played a $10) we headed over to the bar to cash in our winnings with a drink.

We had a great day. Loved every minute of it, until getting home and the anticipation of Monday morning took hold and I spent all night trying desperately to get to sleep. Anyway, I leave you with a couple pictures from my day out in Ottawa on Saturday that I forgot to post.
